Laura Kuykendall Hall

The displaced residents of the Ladies’ Annex were temporarily housed in Mood Hall, with the male residents of Mood being housed throughout the community. The university acted quickly to construct a new building for its female students and named it in honor of Laura Kuykendall, Dean of Women, acknowledging her service to the university and her work to save lives on the night of the fire in the Ladies’ Annex. The building, three stories tall, was built of dark red brick, marking a departure from the traditional limestone. Following a similar layout as the Annex, the building featured side wings connected by a long center. A two-story structure connected on the west side housed a dining hall on the first floor and fine arts studios on the second floor, later converted into sorority rooms.
